WhatsApp chat history transfer for iOS and messages disappearing after 90 days

With major WhatsApp updates coming through for both iOS and Android users, the instant messaging messenger is testing out the new features, WhatsApp chat history transfer from iOS to Android, and also messages disappearing after 90 days.

Although, the iOS chat history transfer to Android has surfaced for beta users, and as expected, WABetaInfo found out that the feature was in a beta state, as it was only enabled for a few WhatsApp v2.21 for iOS beta users.

To test it out if it is enabled, iOS beta users should go check to WhatsApp Settings > Chats, and the confirmation is only when you see “Move chats to Android” While iOS to Android migration, you will see the “Switch to Android” app and follow the instructions provided.

Recall that during the Galaxy Unpacked event, Samsung confirmed that the feature will be available first for Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3. In the ‘coming weeks’ Samsung also confirmed that it will roll out for Samsung smartphones running Android 10 and above.

All these sound interesting, but even at this time, it is not possible to migrate the chat history from Android to iOS. You can’t transfer chat history from your Android phone to an iOS device, even cloud storage does not work, because both are different operating systems that stores their files in different clouds,

WhatsApp messages disappearing after 90 days

The instant messaging app is currently testing out disappearing messages after a period of 90 days. In line with this feature, WhatsApp previously announced the messages disappearing after 7 days, which actually did a better job on that aspect.

However, this is not the first time WhatsApp is testing out similar features, the company is reportedly working on expanding the 7day disappearing feature to include a 24-hour option and the ‘view once’ feature that allows you to read a message once, and it’ll be gone forever.

That 90 days option for the Disappearing Messages feature will be an option alongside the 24 hours and 7 days option. How does it work, the disappearing messages after 90 days allow messages in group chats, and individual chats would automatically be deleted after 90 days and also from the WhatsApp server.

Once the new features, which are still in testing mode are announced or available – this might takes weeks or months – you will be able to choose either 24hours, 7days, or 90days and you can still decide to leave it off for the conversation. We still don’t have any idea about the release date.
