Its is very disturbing to find out that Samsung and Apple have failed to launch a phone with an Under Display Fingerprint Sensor instead, we have been seeing the iris scanners, Face ID and facial recognition but Vivo did it which is a huge turn on.
For instance, Samsung and Google, placed the fingerprint sensor on the rear of the phone, which can be less convenient. Apple phones are popularly known for the physical home button used for fingerprint sensor but the new iPhone X introduced the Face ID system in order to abandon fingerprint authentication because of the bezels are now thin.
As the “UD” in the name implies, the fingerprint reader here has been moved from the rear side to underneath the display, courtesy of Synaptics’ Clear ID sensor. The Vivo X20 Plus UD, which it announced on Wednesday, is the first commercial phone with an in-display fingerprint sensor.
Issue: The Vivo X20 Plus UD won’t work with THICK Screen protectors
After all the hype and everything, it turns out that, we might be facing a huge problem anyway. Although, the phone screen arrives with a Corning Gorilla Glass protection which the screen protection but using screen guard or protectors will affect it in a great way.
Oh yea, you saw it right. Its more interesting as it was pointed out by Vivo company. Now what we are looking at here is whether a screen protector would get in the way of the in-display fingerprint reader.
Vivo answered correctly, according to them, it all depends: it’s actually fine as long as the screen protector doesn’t exceed a certain thickness, otherwise it will affect the fingerprint’s reflection as seen by Synaptics’ optical sensor. That’s cool anyway.
Alternative to that, the X20 Plus UD will come with a film that works, though if you need a replacement, chances are you’ll have to buy one from Vivo to ensure compatibility.
Another issue here was pointed out by Senior Mobile Editor Chris Velazco that with the in-display fingerprint reader when the screen is scratched or cracked, so it may actually be worth the additional protection on such a device.
