Chinese phone maker, VIVO announces the S9 5G and S9e 5G as the company’s latest successor to the Vivo S7 handset. Vivo S9 5G and Vivo S9e arrive with a 6.44-inch Full HD+ AMOLED screen with a 90Hz refresh rate and packs a 4000mAh battery with support for 33W fast charging technology.
The major difference between the two phones is the processor and slight changes to the display. The S9 5G comes with a wide-notch display and the S9e 5G swaps its for a waterdrop-looking.
Both handset a 6.44-inch diagonal Full HD+ AMOLED screen with support for HDR10+ and 90Hz refresh rate, 180Hz touch sampling rate, up to 1300 nits brightness, and boasts of 91.04% screen-to-body ratio. Which offers slimmer bezels and borders.
The S9 5G uses an AG glass back, offering a metal frame design, comes in Midnight Blue, Gradient Blue, and White colors options and the souped-down option comes with a gradient back with speckles, in Diamond Crystal, Aurora Blue, and Obsidian Black colors options.
Vivo S9 5G is quite thick at 7.35mm and weighs 173g. There is support for an in-display fingerprint sensor, USB Type-C audio, Super linear speaker, Dual 5G SA/NSA, Dual 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.1, and GPS + GLONASS.
Vivo S9 5G packs five cameras in total, where the S9e 5G offers just 4 cameras in total. The S9 5G front notch display offers a primary 44-megapixels camera with f/2.2 aperture and a secondary 8-megapixels 105° ultra-wide lens with f/2.28 aperture. It supports 4k video recording.
While the Vivo S9e 5G comes with a waterdrop notch display that supports a 32-megapixels sensor. Around the back, both handsets pack a primary 64-megapixels lens with 0.8μm pixel size, f/1.7, support OIS, an 8-megapixels ultrawide lens, and a 2-megapixels macro sensor.
Powering the S9 is the MediaTek Dimensity 1100 chipset based on the 6nm node and it is the first mobile phone with this chipset. However, it is paired with either 8GB RAM with 128GB storage or 12GB RAM with 256GB storage, both use LPDDR4X RAM and (UFS 3.1) storage.
On the other hand, the S9e employs a MediaTek Dimensity 820 and available in either 8GB/128GB or 8GB/256GB memory configuration. These handsets come with runs on Vivo’s new OriginOS based on Android 10 and fueled by a 4000mAh and support 33W fast charging.
The Vivo S9 8GB RAM / 128GB storage costs 2999 yuan ($463 USD), while the 12GB RAM / 256GB storage is priced at 3299 yuan ($510 USD). Vivo S9e 5G 8GB/128GB cost 2399 yuan ($371 USD) and the 8GB/256GB costs 2699 yuan ($417 USD). These smartphones will be available to order from March 12th and March 27th respectively.
