Twitter officially introduces disappearing tweets named Fleets

In Twitter voice, everybody can start Fleeting now. Twitter introduced disappearing DMs around 2013, but today, Fleets is offering something more amazing – disappearing tweets.

Following up Whatsapp’s disappearing messages, the microblog, Twitter made its disappearing tweets feature official, called Fleets, and it is more of Instagram’s, Facebook’s, Whatsapp’s Stories Clone with Snapchat’s ideas behind it.

Twitter’s Fleets was first announced earlier this year, as an ephemeral tweeting feature, and it has been tested in various markets around the globe. Fortunately, it is available to all Twitter users on all platforms.

The new Twitter’s Fleets sits at sit right at the top of the timeline in a row of Stories. The company confirmed that Fleets will be available for everyone in the coming days as it starts rolling out today on Android and iOS.

With Fleets, users can easily share text, respond to others’ tweets, or post videos with the same background color and overlaid text options you get on other messaging apps with ephemeral features, with every message disappearing after 24 hours.

It expires, but Twitter mentioned that there is no indicator if someone screenshots one of your fleets. You cannot like or retweet a fleet, but it is similar to Instagram’s Stories, allowing you to respond to others’ fleets by tapping on one and sending a direct message or emoji to the creator, which will start a DM conversation.

Anyone who follows you will be able to see what you fleet by visiting your profile and clicking on your Twitter profile picture. Twitter says it will also be introducing stickers and live broadcasting in the future.

This is culled from Twitter Blog:

“Your followers can see your Fleets at the top of their home timeline. Anyone who can see your full profile can see your Fleets there too. Also, anyone who can send you a Direct Message can reply to your Fleets. If you want to reply to a Fleet, tap on it to send a Direct Message or emoji reaction to the author; replying or reacting to a Fleet starts a conversation in your Direct Messages. Fleet authors can see who views their Fleets, including accounts with protected Tweets, by clicking into their Fleets and tapping on the ‘Seen By’ text at the bottom. Learn more about how Fleets work here. Fleets will be updated over time with new features, based on your feedback.”
