The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip is definitely the best foldable phone right now, even better than the Motorola Razr. As expected, there are some complications, which will undermine the efficiency of the foldable phone.

Despite its ongoing doubts if its Infinity Flex display is actually a bendable and durable glass, Samsung has officially commercialized the Galaxy Z Flip glass for non-Samsung foldable.

Truth Behind the Foldable Glass

During the introduction, Samsung mentioned that the phone is protected from both dust and dirt. The company said they have “built a tiny mechanism that helps protect the phone… Sweepy tech”

But during ifixit and Jerryrigeverything tear-down videos, the dust-resistant “fiber shield” failed at the dust test. However, the Galaxy Z Flip still excels at the very best function it was built for.

The phone sports a 6.7-inch FULL HD+ (2636 x 1080 pixels) 21.5:9 Dynamic AMOLED Infinity Flex display, with external/cover of 1.1-inch (300 x 112 pixels) Super AMOLED display.

Samsung said that “we made a leap from polymer screens to ultra-thin glass technology. It is crystal clear, stunning inside and out” For the bending technique, the company noted that they have made its smallest and most durable hideaway metallic hinge that can fold, fold and fold.

The company said that they have “leap” from polymer screens to ultra-thin glass technology, with Samsung Ultra-Thin Glass (UTG) but Glass experts warned us, and now Samsung’s supposed “leap” does use polymer and is easy to scratch.

German manufacturer Schott is the brain behind the glass technology. Where he noted that it’s a soft, scratchable plastic layer up top, and won’t require that extra protection.

If you wondering how glass bends, you should read Theverge full notes that expatiate what experts said, practically anything can be bent if you make it thin enough, getting a glass down below a hundred microns thick — like the thickness of a human hair, can solve the problem.

But you should be a little bit worried, because the thinner the glass is, it is more prone to little scratches. Where Schott’s Dr. Mathias Mydlak said “If you scratch it with something … this is going to be an initial defect that can cause problems later on,”

There is a dedicated ‘Flex mode’ that splits apps in half and puts the controls on the bottom half and in turn, the top half turns into a viewing area. It can bend 2,00,000 times, Samsung said.

Every other spec is quite understandable, powered by a Snapdragon 855 Plus, 8GB of RAM, 256GB of storage. It arrives with two 12-megapixel cameras on the back, a wide-angle, and an ultra-wide-angle lens. While a 10-megapixel camera sits at the front cut out at the top of the display.

It is fueled by a 3,300mAh dual battery which supports 15W fast charging, and 9w Qi wireless charging, after all, two batteries are inside the Galaxy Z Flip. It runs a customized version of Android 10 but the phone does not support 5G.

The new Galaxy Z Flip will be available in the US and Korea starting February 14th for $1,380. It costs Rs. 1,09,999 in India and pre-booking will begin February 21.

While the Galaxy Z Flip Thom Browne Edition is in March, the pre-orders begin on February 14th, 2020 in select markets and will be a little bit more expensive than the original version.
