The South Korean tech giant, Samsung officially unveils its latest Smartphones series during its Unpacked event – Galaxy S series and Note series fused into one powerful lineup – Introducing the Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+, and Galaxy S22 Ultra with S Pen.
Let’s start with the fact that you can pre-order the Samsung Galaxy S22, S22+, and Galaxy S22 Ultra now with actual shipments expected on February 25. Where the Galaxy S22 costs €849/£769 for the 8GB RAM / 128GB, and €899/£819 for the 8GB RAM / 256GB model.
While the Galaxy S22+ goes for €1,049/£949 for the 8GB RAM / 128GB storage and €1,099/£999 for the 8GB RAM / 256GB storage. Where the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra price sets you back at $1199/€1249 for the 8GB/128GB model.
Samsung initiated some color design here, where the new Samsung trio will be available in Phantom Black, Phantom White, and Green option, but the Galaxy S22 Ultra brings an extra Burgundy color option.
While some color options will be exclusive to Samsung.com such as Graphite, and Sky-Blue for the trio, and others specifically to each model, like Graphite, Red to Galaxy S22 Ultra, and Cream/Violet to Galaxy S22/S22+.
Samsung Galaxy S22 and S22+
One major notable feature about the duo is the first-hand craftmanship – premium build quality – These come with support for glass panel – Victus+ glass on all their panels, this is a huge step from last year’s plastic build.
They are slightly smaller than their predecessor. Offering 5mm of length, 0.6mm width, and 0.3mm thickness. However, the S22/S22+ weighs 168g/196g respectively. The Samsung duo comes with support for 240Hz Touch Sampling Rate in Game Mode.
Both phones arrive with an FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X Infinity-O flat Displays, which are 2X brighter and smarter with its adaptive refresh rate – between 10-120Hz, where the S21 did 48Hz-120Hz and can reach a peak brightness of 1,300 nits/1750nits for Ultra.
There is a 10-megapixels f/2.2 selfie snapper, and the rear cameras are identical – an f/1.8 50-megapixels 1/1.57″ 1um ISOCELL GN5 sensor with OIS, f/2.2 12-megapixels 120° Ultra Wide sensor, f/2.4 10-megapixels telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom with OIS.
The cameras can shoot 4K video @60fps and 8K @30fps. Connectivity includes Bluetooth 5.2, 5G SA/NSA, 4G VoLTE, GPS + GLONASS, USB 3.1, NFC, MST, while the UWB/Wi-Fi 6E for S22+ only, and the S22 supports only Wi-Fi 6.
The Samsung Galaxy S22 and S22+ share identical processors depending on the market, you either get to choose a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 4nm Mobile Platform / Samsung Exynos 2200 processor coupled with 8GB RAM with 128GB/256GB storage.
Bringing an octa-core processor with one Cortex-X2 core, three Cortex-A710 cores, and four Cortex-A510 ones. These run Android 12 with One UI 4, offers IP68 waterproof, and support for Samsung’s ultrasonic fingerprint for biometric authentication.
The Samsung Galaxy S22 comes with a 3700mAh capacity, which is smaller than its predecessor’s 4,000mAh and supports 25W fast charging, and the Galaxy S22+ packs a 4500mAh battery capacity with support for 45W fast charging, 15W Qi wireless charging, and Wireless PowerShare.
Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra with S Pen
Here is another beast from the tech giant – the fusion of S-series and Note-series – Galaxy S22 Ultra with support for Samsung’s iconic trademark, the S-Pen. It is the successor to both 2021’s Galaxy S21 Ultra and 2020’s Galaxy Note20 Ultra.
It was also introduced during the company’s Galaxy Unpacked online event, offering a standardized and futuristic design, and body build. It measures 8.9mm thick and weighs 229g. It brings the Note 20 Ultra’s curved display, flattened front, back, top, and bottom with curved sides.
The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra arrives with a 6.8-inch (3088 x 1440 pixels) Quad HD+ Infinity-O-Edge Dynamic AMOLED Display and comes with support for a 1-120Hz adaptive refresh rate with 240Hz Touch Sampling Rate in Game Mode.
It comes with an aluminum frame, supports up to 1750 nits brightness, and Gorilla Glass Victus+ protection, specifically similar to the S22+. The Galaxy S22 Ultra and S-Pen come with IP68-rating for dust and water-resistant, and an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor.
The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra is powered by either Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor, a 4nm Mobile Platform / Octa-Core Samsung Exynos 2200 processor, depending on the markets with 8GB/128GB, and 12GB RAM with 256GB/512GB/1TB storage.
It runs Android 12 with One UI 4.1 and packs a 5000mAh battery with 45W fast charging, and support for 15W Qi wireless charging. It brings Wi-Fi 6E connectivity, which is also identical to the Galaxy S22+.
The new camera array is in a similar arrangement to last year’s S21 Ultra but without the large raised island around it, starting with the Galaxy S21 Ultra’s f/1.8 108-megapixels, 12-megapixels f/2.2 ultrawide camera, and dual 10-megapixels telephoto snappers – f/2.4 3x and f/4.9 10x periscope.
It comes with a 40-megapixels f/2.2 selfie camera and supports 8K video shooting. The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra is also the first Galaxy S series phone to come with a built-in S Pen Stylus with Wacom tech. Samsung said the S Pen has 70% lower latency compared to S21 Ultra.
