Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Plus announced with overclocked CPU, along with 15% faster GPU. It is expected to brings 4.2 percent upgrade in core performance. When unveiling a new processor, the first thing that comes to the mind, is if there is any new development when compared to the previous generation and the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Plus comes with that.
The new Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Plus is the direct successor to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC. The new chipset aims at bringing the best gaming experience, considerable increase in CPU and GPU performance, 5G, gaming, AI and XR. Understand that the Snapdragon 855 Plus comes with just a slight development to the flagship chip, which is the Snapdragon 855.
If you are curious, the major hardware difference between the Snapdragon 855 Plus and the Snapdragon 855 is that the new chipset is clocked at a slightly higher speed, and the GPU has received a 15 percent performance boost as well. However, few mobile phone companies has targeted that the phone with this chipset will arrive sooner.
The Vice president, product management, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc Kedar Kondap, during the launch said:
” Snapdragon 855 Plus will raise the bar for elite gamers with the increase in CPU and GPU performance and elevate experiences for 5G, gaming, AI and XR, which is something our OEM customers look to us to deliver. Snapdragon 855 Plus is our most advanced mobile platform to date and will build upon the success of the 2019 Android flagship Snapdragon 855 5G mobile platform.”
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC features a Kryo 485 cores CPU built on Arm Cortex Technology, and they are clocked at a higher 2.96GHz. The CPU performance boost is around 4.2 percent. Qualcomm noted that the Snapdragon 855 Plus’ Adreno 640 GPU delivers a 15 percent boost in graphics performance compared to the standard Snapdragon 855.
Recall that the previous Snapdragon 855 runs on a clock speed of up to 2.84GHz, which is comparatively different from the latest chipset. It offers a total capacity of more than 7 trillion operations per second (7 TOPs). It comes with an integrated multi-gigabit Snapdragon X24 LTE 4G modem, and lacks the built-in 5G modem. Nevertheless, it supports 5G connectivity using the X50 5G modem separately.
The Vulkan 1.1 Graphics Driver is now 20% more power efficient than Open GL ES and this Mobile Platform also features software enhancements such as Game Jank Reducer, Game Fast Loader, Game AntiCheat Extensions, and more. The Snapdragon 855 Plus is expected to arrive on Smartphone in Q2 2019.
Next week, the ASUS ROG Phone 2 with 120Hz display will arrive as the world’s first gaming Smartphone to come with Snapdragon 855 Plus SoC. Other mobile phone company’s that also teases to run on Snapdragon 855 Plus includes Black Shark, Lenovo, Realme, Vivo, Nubia.
