Qualcomm Snapdragon 780G 5nm 5G announced with better 5G modem

The American chipset maker, Qualcomm announces its latest 5nm mid-range chip with flagship-grade modem – Snapdragon 780G 5G mobile platform processor with built-in Qualcomm Snapdragon X53 5G modem-RF system.

With the Snapdragon X53 5G Modem-RF System, the peak download speeds of 3.3 Gbps on sub-6 GHz frequencies, but the mmWave is missing, and the Qualcomm FastConnect 6900 Connectivity System brings Wi-Fi 6 (up to 3.6 Gbps), and also support Wi-Fi 6E.

It comes with Bluetooth 5.2, dual antennas, and Qualcomm Snapdragon Sound Technology. It arrives with USB 3.1 for data and Quick Charge 4+ for filling the battery.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 780G 5G chipset

The Snapdragon 780G 5G Mobile Platform is actually the official successor to the company’s Snapdragon 765G / 768G chipset, and this is the first chipsets in its class to be uilt on a 5nm node, similar to Exynos 1080 and Snapdragon 888.

During the launch, the company mentioned that the new Qualcomm Kryo 670 CPU with new architecture delivers up to 40% performance uplift, as the 600-series cores use the latest Cortex-A78, where the 768G chipset used A76-based cores.

The Kryo 670 Prime CPU goes up to 2.4GHz, supports Adreno 642 GPU, and the Snapdragon 780G (SM7350-AB) also comes with supports for LPDDR4 RAM at up to 2.1 GHz frequency and up to 16 GB capacity.

Others includes updatable drivers, HDR10, up to 4K @60 Hz, 10-bit color depth, and the display adapter can drive 1080p+ displays at up to 144Hz. The Hexagon 770 AI engine can offers an impressive 12 TOPS of performance.

The company also mentioned that it comes with Qualcomm Spectra 570 triple ISP and 6th generation Qualcomm AI Engine with the Qualcomm Hexagon 770 processor delivering up to 12 TOPs AI performance, which is a 2x improvement compared to its predecessor.

Snapdragon 780G 5G chipset

It also brings Qualcomm Snapdragon Elite Gaming features, updateable GPU drivers, ultra-smooth gaming, and True 10-bit HDR gaming. It also supports up to 25MP triple camera, up to 64MP + 20MP dual camera, up to 84 MP single camera with ZSL, and up to 192MP single camera.

With the triple spectra 570 ISP support, the image streams from three cameras can be processed simultaneously, and can supports 10-bit color depth for photos and videos (Rec. 2020 color gamut) and can record in several popular HDR formats: HDR10, HDR10+ and HLG.

It supports Qualcomm Spectra 570 Image Sensor Processor (14-bit triple-ISP), Real-time object classification, segmentation, and replacement, Low light photography architecture, 10-bit HDR HEIF photo capture, and Multi-frame Noise Reduction (MFNR).

Others include 4K HDR Video Capture with Portrait Mode (Bokeh), 4K Video Capture + 64 MP Photo, Slow-mo video capture at 480 FPS, and HEVC Video Capture. Phones based on Snapdragon 780G will be launched during the second quarter of 2021 and might even power the upcoming Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite.
