Wow! It is really surprising and amazing for our dear Country but the Fact still remains! Nigeria is the world third most corrupted country in Global Internet Crime and they are behind some popular countries too. So aren’t alone in this!
According to the Nigerian Communication Commission statistics, it is said that Nigeria ranks 3rd in global internet crimes behind UK, U.S. That is to say, after UK & US, there you will see Nigerians.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, Umar Dantata, says Nigeria currently ranks third globally in cyber crimes behind the UK and the U.S. The NCC boss made this known when he spoke Tuesday August 22nd, at the ongoing 2017 Annual General Conference of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, in Lagos.
“About N127 billion was the estimated loss to cyber crime in Nigeria in 2015; Nigeria ranks third in global internet crimes behind the UK and U.S. A critical factor militating against Africa’s economic resurgence is the weakness of its institutions. Nigeria ranks 169 out of 199 on the World Bank’s ease of doing business rankings; we are in a middle of a revolution and the rise of what we call the networked society. The NCC stipulates the laws of engagement that will make the cyberspace safe and ensure the confidence as well as the safety of the cyberspace,” he told the audience.
Well, the news is kind of devastating and somehow disgracing!
Military to Monitor Social Media
And again, we have another news from Nigerian Military, who are planning on investigating or Monitoring our own Social Media for Hate Speech and also take some information concerning any Anti-Government and Anti-Military!
Well, it seems that they are planning on ruling the country like other Islamic country out there, concerning the internet and online stuff. So we’d advice everybody to start using some adequate and proper English when interacting or commenting on any abusive post online.
According to Enenche, social media is a double-edged sword and the military is now getting involved to address its misuse.
“Imagine when the President came back and addressed the nation, not up to 30 minutes later, a fake speech of the Commander-In-Chief was being circulated in order to do what? To derail the people. If you are not very sharp and if you didn’t listen to the speech or you don’t have a copy of it like I had it almost immediately, you wouldn’t know. So, looking at it from that perspective, it is a challenge everywhere.
“What are we doing? In the military, we are now taking on it more seriously than ever. We have our strategic media centres that monitor the social media to be able to sieve out and react to all the ones that will be anti-government, be anti-military and be anti-security.
“We tackle them appropriately with appropriate responses. Ahead of that, we are also proactive. We have measures in place, scientific measures to be able to sieve this information and also to get the public and let them know that some of this information they are getting is not genuine are not true and their objective is an anti-corporate existence of this country.
This isn’t good news at all. Sincerely, am not happy at all because this Government is Free and Fair! It is a Democratic Government where the Government is of the People, by the People and for the People! We have the Rights, Obligation and Freedom to Speech! Meanwhile, please, try to be conscious and formal Online, no one wants to fall a victim, OneLove!
