Today, an Indian smartphone manufacturer, Lava mobile has launched a feature phone that claims to be the first-ever phone in the world to have a heart rate & blood pressure sensor. It is known as the Lava Pulse feature phone!
Though this might be a breaking limit for Lava international phone company, but finger-based blood pressure measurements are not accurate for the time being. Samsung watches have not received such as clearance to be available in the US.
However, the company also noted that the recommendation is as per ACC/AHA, and boasted that the Pulse’s sensor readings have accuracy similar to present electronic Heart rate and Blood pressure measuring digital devices.
Lava is calling the tool ‘pulse scanner’, located on the back, next to the camera and it works pretty normally. Simply place their fingertip and it will display the Blood Pressure and Heart rate immediately on the screen display.
For future use, sharing purposes, or for medical comparison, you can easily save the data on the phones. Even the company noted that “it is not a substitute to a medical device.”
Aside from the heart rate & blood pressure sensor feature, it is just a normal feature phone. Sports a 2.4-inch (240 x 320 pixels) QVGA 65k color display, comes in Rose Gold color option, Dual SIM, and camera with video recording.
It comes with an FM receiver with a recording function, a 3.5 mm headphone jack, 32MB RAM, expandable up to 32GB with microSD, Polycarbonate body with Military Grade certification, and measures 12.45mm.
The phone supports 2G GSM 900/1800MHz, Bluetooth, micro USB port, number talker, photo icons for saving contacts, and 1800mAh battery capacity with super battery mode, which the company claims to lasts up to 6 days on a single charge.
Lava Pulse costs INR 1,949 ($26), and it will be available online on Amazon, Flipkart, and other thousands of retail stores across the country. The company also offers a 1year replacement service.
