See student who refused $5k offered by Elon Musk to stop tracking his private jet

Jack Sweeney, a student at the University of Central Florida was offered a whopping $5000 from the richest man in the world, Elon Musk of Tesla, and SpaceX. However, refused and asked for something else instead.

Sweeney created a Twitter bot that tracks locations of billionaires’ private jets through a couple of codes. The 19-year-old Aerospace engineering student’s Twitter bot shows the departure and arrival of the private jets used by billionaires. With Elon Musk’s account being the largest, the world’s richest man reached out to him.

Jack Sweeney runs 15 flight tracking accounts on Twitter following high-profile people, including Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos, and, of course, Musk. These details are posted to his couple of followers on Twitter, each billionaire having its own account, but Elon Musk’s account is the largest with 196.8K followers.

Elon Musk and Jack Sweeney Conversation

Elon Musk started the conversation with the 19-year old student, @ElonJet where he asked him “Can you take this down? It is a security risk” and Sweeney replied asking for Model 3, jokingly, citing the reasons to be student bills behind the request.

When Musk asked him, “How much do you make from the Twitter account” Jack replied saying “I don’t make a lot really like 20$ a month, unfortunately,” Musk went ahead to ask him the real question “How are you able to track using a bot?”

Sweeney, a self-described SpaceX fan replied him detailing all the codes put in place by the Air control system in order to make this work. Elon Musk was disappointed as he said “Always the same code” and “Air traffic control is so primitive”

Jack’s father works in the airline industry, and he’s been trying to identify types of planes as they flew by since he was a child. Elon asked the young star, “What should I do?… Ok, how about $5k for this account and generally helping make it slightly harder for crazy people to track me”

Elon Musk messaged Sweeney offering him $5,000 to delete the bot account over security concerns. Where he specifically said to Jack via Twitter DM, “I don’t love the idea of being shot by a nutcase”

At first, the student refused and asked for the $5k to be increased up to $50k alongside a Tesla Model 3, but moving forward, the college freshman refused, asking the billionaire for an internship instead at either Tesla or SpaceX.

Here is the student reply to Elon Musk’s offer “Sounds doable, account and all my help. Any chance to up that to $50k? It would be a great support in college and would possibly allow me to get a car maybe even a Model 3. Would love to help you out”

Jack Sweeney also mentioned that he has come out with some plans, codes to make it a little bit harder to be tracked using private jets, this is based on one of the requests of the billionaire. Where Musk said “Thinking about it (with a thumbs up)”

However, something else also happened, Sweeney messaged Elon Musk saying “I have not publicly told anyone that you make me an offer, but I did say “The account may be coming down, and it’s for the best” Now someone messages me assuming you offered me something to take down the account. He is offering me 1BTC to keep it up. I don’t know why he is interested in the account. ?? Seems kind of suspicious.

So far, Protocol said, there haven’t been any security threats to any of the accounts personnel controlled by Jack Sweeney, but Musk is trying to reduce the trendy stuff, where celebrities getting ambushed at airports by fans, by people who want to sell their autograph, paparazzi, etc.
