iPhone SE is the direct successor of the iPhone SE that was introduced back in 2016. It is the second-generation iPhone SE and should be probably known as the iPhone SE 2.

Apple calls the iPhone SE “A powerful new smartphone in a popular design” It definitely looks more like the iPhone 8 that was unveiled back in 2017 but with advanced specs and features.

We should start calling the second-generation iPhone SE as iPhone SE 2. It might just be another iPhone 8 with economical price, but Apple’s A13 Bionic chip in the latest iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro models takes it to another whole level.

    iPhone 8’s Design and Display

The iPhone SE 2 arrives with a 4.7-inch (1334 x 750 pixels) IPS 326 PPI display and weighs 148grams. Yes, it is small but Apple noted that there won’t be a plus-sized version of the second-generation iPhone SE.

It still retains the glass and aluminum design, available in Black, White and PRODUCT(RED) color options, retains the TouchID Fingerprint sensor with a built‑in stereo speaker.

It is IP67 rated for water and dust resistant rating up to 30 minutes, and measures 7.3mm. It is the smallest, among the iPhone 11 lineup, but still comes with the iPhone 8 Glass and aluminum design.

Apple removed the headphone jack and replaced it with Lightning headphones inside the box. It also supports Haptic Touch, which is Apple’s replacement for 3D Touch, amounting to a long press with haptic feedback.

    Improved Cameras by A13 Bionic

At the back of the phone is the single 12-megapixel f/1.8 camera lens on the back with a flash. It is the company’s first phone with a single rear camera since 2018’s iPhone XR.

It is the same simple cameras on the back of both iPhone XR and the 2017 iPhone 8, which lacks the extra iPhone 11’s 12-megapixel ultrawide and iPhone 11 PRO’s 12-megapixel telephoto.

With the Apple A13 Bionic running inside the veins of the iPhone SE 2, we are quite sure that the second-generation iPhone will really gain more from the company’s new image processing work.

As noted on the Apple blog post, it’s using this chip’s image signal processor and the Neural Engine to offer a host of software-based improvements to the SE 2’s photographs.

One of the best-advanced features is the iPhone 11’s Smart HDR algorithm, that recognizes individual elements within an image in order to light them properly. The company calls it “Semantic rendering,”. Combines multiple shots into a single photo to improve lighting and detail.

It shoots Portrait mode, it is what Apple calls “monocular depth sensing.” that uses machine learning to detect depth and faces. Others are optical image stabilization, True Tone flash, 4K video recording at 60 fps, Slo‑mo 1080p at 240 fps.

On the front is the 7-megapixels front camera with f/2.2 aperture, and supports 1080p video recording. Which is also the same with the iPhone XR and iPhone 8.

With the same technology available on the back and front cameras, the 7MP can create portrait mode shots from its single lens. It supports Wi-Fi 6, Gigabit LTE, Dual SIM with eSIM.

iPhone 11 A13 Bionic and battery life

It is powered by Apple Six-core A13 Bionic 64-bit processor, which Apple says is “the fastest chip in a smartphone” along with 8-core Neural Engine, 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB storage options and runs on iOS 13.

During the announcement, the company did not reveal the battery capacity but said that it will be the same as its iPhone 8. However, since there is a new different category of cameras, the battery won’t be a problem also.

But since the iPhone 11 boasts of longer life than the iPhone 8, thanks to the A13 Bionic chips. Which is now also available on the second-generation iPhone SE 2020, then it has a much longer lifespan than the iPhone 8.

It packs a 5W charger in the box, that can support 18W fast charging with the right adapter. It powers via a Lightning connector for charging and also supports Qi wireless charging.

The iPhone SE 2 64GB costs $399 and will be available from April 24th. While the 128GB is priced at $449 and the 256GB at $499. The pre-order starts on the 17th of April.
