Chinese Smartphone maker, HUAWEI announces its latest mobile handsets. HUAWEI Nova 8 and HUAWEI Nova 8 Pro with 5G modem support, thanks to the Kirin 985 5G processor, 64-megapixels QUAD-rear camera setup and comes with an in-display fingerprint scanner.
Both mobile handsets, Nova 8 and Nova 8 Pro 5G are the first Smartphone in its new Nova 8 series, and it was officially launched in China. Although, they offer major features that are similar to each other with slight differences.
The HUAWEI Nova 8 arrives with a 6.57-inch FHD+ OLED screen with a 90Hz refresh rate and 240Hz touch sampling rate. The screen is slightly curved and comes with a 1080 pixels screen resolution.
On the other hand, the Nova 8 Pro 5G arrives with a 6.72-inch FHD+ OLED 120Hz curved display, 2676 x 1236 pixels screen resolution, boasts 10bit color output which should translate into deeper and more saturated colors.
It comes with 160.12 x 74.01 × 7.64mm dimensions and weighs 169g. While the Pro weighs 184g and comes with a dimension of 163.32 x 74.08 × 7.85mm.
Another major difference is the battery capacity, the nova 8 comes with 3800mAh and nova 8 Pro with 4000mAh battery, both use 66W SuperCharge fast charging via USB Type-C.
Both devices are available in silver, purple, green, and black colors and use AG anti-glare glass technology on the back that reflects light at certain angles. While the speaker grill cutout is part of the top frame.
Both Smartphone runs on Android 10 OS with EMUI 11 with Huawei’s HMS app ecosystem. Inside the punch-hole is a 32-megapixels camera with f/2.0 aperture. Which is a little bit different from what the Pro is offering.
The Nova 8 PRO comes with a dual hole-punch display, which houses a primary 32-megapixels ultra-wide front camera with f/2.4 aperture, and a 16-megapixels portrait camera with f/2.2 aperture.
Both phones come with a QUAD-rear camera setup, there is the main 64-megapixels camera with f/1.8 aperture, supported by a secondary 8-megapixels ultra-wide camera with f/2.4 aperture.
Alongside with 2-megapixels depth and 2-megapixels macro camera with f/2.4 aperture. Both support USB Type-C Audio, Dual SIM, 5G SA/NSA, Dual 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS. There is NFC support only on the nova 8 PRO.
These phones are powered by a Kirin 985 5G processor with ARM Mali-G77 GPU and are available in either 8GB RAM with 128GB / 256GB storage options. There is Big Core + Tiny Core NPUs (Neural-network Processing Unit) support.
The nova 8 8GB RAM / 128GB storage costs for CNY 3,299 ($505), while the 8GB RAM / 256GB storage variant is priced at CNY 3,699 ($565).
While the nova 8 Pro 8GB RAM / 128GB storage option goes for CNY 3,999 ($611), and CNY 4,399 ($672) for the 8GB RAM / 256GB storage. Both devices will start selling from December 30 and international availability has not been mentioned.
