Magic V is Honor’s first folding smartphone – The first folding phone with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1

    HONOR Magic V was announced as the company’s first folding smartphone, and it is also the first folding phone powered by the latest Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor, which brings premium and advanced features.

    The new Magic V uses a water drop hinge, which consists of 213 parts and claims to have a lifespan of 200,000 folding times. However, this is quite similar to the folding form factor used on Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold3 devices, but its external screen display is larger.

    As a folding smartphone, the Honor Magic V brings a stainless combination of a large internal folding display with a smaller external display that can be used while the device is folded. It is 72.7mm thick when unfolded and 14.3mm thick when folded.

    It is available in three main color options – Titanium Silver, Black, Burnt Orange colors – Where the Black model comes with an AG glass, and the orange model with a leather finish, and the silver model has thin vertical stripes printed under the glass.

    The Magic V’s main screen is a 7.9 inches FHD+ 90Hz with magnetron nano-optical film with a reflectivity of less than 1.5%. It is a flexible OLED screen with 2272 x 1984px resolution, HDR10+ support, 10bit colors, 10:3:9 aspect ratio, 21:9 aspect, and 800nits peak brightness.

    Honor Magic V is also the first foldable to boast IMAX Enhanced certification. Both Screens bring support for 1920Hz high-frequency PWM eye protection, and the company stressed that both screens are powered by BOE.

    On the top front is a 6.45-inch FHD+ AMOLED external screen with a 120Hz refresh rate, featuring a drop-resistant curved nano-glass-ceramic with up to 1000 nits brightness. Similar to the main display, it brings HDR10+, 1.07 billion colors, and DCI-P3 Wide Color Gamut.

    Around the back, Honor is bringing a triple 50-megapixels camera support system, the main camera with a 23mm equivalent lens, 13mm equivalent ultra-wide sensor, and an ultra color spectrum camera that was first introduced in the HUAWEI P50 Pocket.

    Honor added a 42-megapixels selfie camera with an f/2.4 lens inside the punch hole cutouts on the cover screen and on the main screen. It brings a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, USB Type-C Audio, Stereo speakers, 5G SA/NSA, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.2 LE, GPS, and NFC.

    HONOR Magic V powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 4nm Mobile Platform with Adreno next-gen GPU, coupled with 12GB RAM with 256GB  storage / 512GB storage, and runs Magic UI 6.0 based on Android 12. It sports a 4,750mAh battery with support for 66W wired fast charging.

    The HONOR Magic V 12GB RAM and 256GB storage is priced at 9,999 yuan ($1568), and the 12GB RAM / 512GB version goes for 10999 yuan ($1725). It will go on open sale on January 18th in China. There is no mention if the Magic V will make it outside of China.
