Google officially announced the Pixel 5a 5G and it might not be the cutting-edge Smartphone we’d hope for, but the Pixel 5a tends to packs slight improvement over Google’s mid-range predecessor – Pixel 4A and Pixel 4A 5G.
Well, the Pixel 6 will be coming this fall, and that is the Smartphone we are expecting to bring the bold ultimate and upgraded specifications and features. However, the Pixel 5a is here and it brings a new unibody aluminum design in a new ‘Mostly Black’ color with a slightly green hue.
There is an olive-colored Power button, but Google is selling the case in four different colors – Black Moss, Maybe Moon, Likely Lime, and Partially Pink. Where each case color creates distinctive shades for personalization.
On the front is a 6.34-inch 1080pixels FHD+ OLED HDR display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection, and still at a 60Hz refresh rate. The Pixel 5a oozes out mid-range specs, but it does arrive with an IP67 rating for dust and water-resistant.
It comes with a 12.2-megapixels main camera with f/1.7 lens, OIS support, 16-megapixels 107° Ultra-wide camera with f/2.2 lens, and a single 8-megapixels f/2.0 front camera with 84° ultra-wide lens.
The Pixel 5a comes with a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, 3.5mm audio jack, Stereo speakers, and 2 microphones. It is 7.6mm thick, weighs 185g and the connectivity includes 5G SA/NA, 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.1 LE, GPS, USB Type-C 3.1 Gen 1, and NFC.
Google Pixel 5a is powered by a Snapdragon 765G 7nm EUV Mobile Platform with its Kryo 475 CPUs clocking at 2.4GHz coupled with Adreno 620 GPU. The Pixel 5a is available in 6GB LPDDR4X RAM with 128GB (UFS 2.1) storage.
Pixel 5a comes with a 4,680mAh battery, which is slightly bigger than the Pixel 4a 5G’s respectable 3,885mAh battery, but still with 18W USB-PD 2.0 fast charging. However, it still lacks wireless charging support. Google calls it “all day” performance, with up to 48 hours of stamina if you turn on extreme battery saver.
The new mobile phone runs Android 11 OS with a minimum of 3 years of OS and security updates. It is priced at $449 (NGN184,943 Nigerian Naira), which is $50 less than the Pixel 4A 5G’s introductory price.
The Pixel 5a case is priced at $29 (NGN11,945 Nigerian Naira approx.). The Google Pixel 5a 5G is available to pre-order in the U.S. and Japan and will ship starting from August 26th. Google said it is unlocked and works on all major carrier networks in the U.S. and Japan.
