The photo and video-sharing social networking service, Instagram, and its parent company, Facebook has started its plans of reminding people to wear face masks, as a preemptive attack against the novel COVID-19 virus.
Both apps will start displaying the messages at the top of the feed. Where Facebook will add the message to its News Feed and Instagram to its feed, encouraging people to wear face masks.
Facebook announced this new update on Thursday, where it stated “with the rise in COVID-19 cases in the US, we’re putting an alert at the top of Facebook and Instagram to remind everyone to wear face coverings”
The social media giant, Facebook said that its app will not only display an alert at the top of News Feeds that’ll direct users to wear masks, the COVID-19 Information Center, but it’ll also have links to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for more information.
Well, there will be a similar and identical notification prompt on Instagram, but it will include CDC links. Where the recommendation is for people to wear masks in public spaces to protect others from possible infection.
After all, wearing masks helps you to NOT get the respiratory disease and also reduces the transmission that may spread the virus. Facebook noted that the new update is due to the rising 50,000 new cases of COVID-19 in the US.
This isn’t the first time Facebook will be taking bold and calculative steps towards the coronavirus pandemic. The company has done huge works on limiting the spread of fake news on its platform and also encouraging people to take precautions.
