Officially, we are now in “The bezel-less Smartphone Design Trend”

After the Note 8, iPhone X, Xiaomi Mi Mix 2, Essential Smartphone and many other companies including LG, whats the next design are we expecting?

Indeed, the latest 2017 Flagship Smartphones from Samsung, LG, iPhone, Xiaomi etc are all featuring bezel-less design but the question there, is after the bezel-less design, is there any new innovation?

The bezel-less design is edge-to-edge infinity screen that makes the Smartphone users feel like having the phone screen size on their palm and more flexible, more lighter and also elegant in design.

What is the Bezel?

Bezel is a term used to describe the outside frame of a computer, monitor or any other computing device. But adding the “Less” to the bezel, means that, the panel frame of the device are automatically removed, that is the Bezel-less Design!

Nowadays, the device designs such the iPad have extremely narrow bezels, allowing for more screen. This has become an increasingly important design factor for consumers.

Devices and Electronics such as tablet computers and smartphones are increasingly moving toward a bezel-less design. The bezel serves to hold the screen in place, and perhaps also reduce unintentional inputs on a touch screen.

Bezel-Free Smartphone Trend in 2017

Although, it started with the Xiaomi Mi Mix smartphone that was unveiled in October 2016, since then, many companies has officially taken over the edge-to-edge infinity design.

The Essential Smartphone is among the top bezel-free Smartphone, where the screen covers over 80% of the phone, that is the edge-to-edge screen. Featuring the 5.71-inch touchscreen, 360 Camera and many more.

The LG V30 is another bezel-free Smartphone that features 6-inch OLED, curved edges. As the same, it is the edge-to-edge screen size.

Also to the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus, we also have the bezel-free edge to edge infinity design. The Galaxy S8 has a taller 5.8-in QHD+ “Infinity” screen, with the top and bottom bezels of the phone are much smaller, giving it a screen-to-body ratio of 83 per cent. With the reduction in bezels, the Galaxy S8 offers more immersive experiences for viewing movies and playing games on the smartphone.

Including the Galaxy Note 8 that features quite an impressive display than the Galaxy S8. The Galaxy Note 8 offers a 6.3-inch qHD+ display with HDR support that is an edge-to-edge infinity screen design and the 18:5:9 aspect ratio. And the screen dominates the front of the phone.

The Xiaomi Mi Mix 2, the newly launched Bezel-Less Smartphone from Xiaomi and the specifications are really mouth-watering. The Mi Mix 2 comes with a 5.99-inch 18:9 Full HD+ edge-to-edge infinity screen.

And to the recent launch, we have the iPhone X! That arrives with a 5.8‑inch Super Retina screen size and all Glass built, edge to edge screen, apart from the Small Panel at the top of the screen that holds the camera for selfie and Face ID.

And they are many more Bezel-free Smartphone coming in 2017. But in Nigeria, we haven’t see any leak of a bezel-free Smartphone from our popular brands.

Apart from the popular companies manufacturing the Bezel-free Smartphone such as iPhone, Samsung, LG, Xiaomi, OPPO, we still have many others including Doogee, Elephone, ZTE and much more.

But on any bezel-free device, the costs are really high, a company needs a lot of Finances to remove the bezel of a Smartphone or any device. Although, it is not just the finances, you also need some few resources & research!

On a bezel-less phone, the screen will be registering these extra touches. For a company to fight this, the mobile manufacturers need to develop software that will recognize the difference between your hand gripping the phone and your hand trying to use the phone.

What designs are we looking at?

Is it the Concept Phones from Lenovo, where they showed the Wrist-Phones?

Or the Samsung Bendable Phones or Foldable Concept which is slightly on the U11!

Probably, the Bezel-free Smartphone design might stay for a very long time but if there is any new idea of any new technology featuring more designs, we would personally love it.

The idea of bezel-less smartphones is interesting, but keep in mind that they are easier to break. Since the screens are more closer to the edge of the phone, they are less rugged in nature compared to a phone with thick bezels. They can be expensive to replace as well!
