ASUS ROG Phone 5s and ROG Phone 5s Pro announced with Snapdragon 888+ with up to 18GB RAM
With major advanced specifications and upgraded features, ASUS officially unveils the ROG Phone 5s and ROG Phone 5s Pro with Samsung’s E4 AMOLED HDR display with 144Hz refresh rate, and Snapdragon 888 Plus runs through the software veins with up to 18GB RAM.
The ASUS ROG Phone 5s is the successor to the new series, which commenced with this April’s ROG Phone 5. Unlike the previous model, the ROG Phone 5s does not come with the Ultimate version available on the Phone 5, only offers the ROG Phone 5s and ROG Phone 5s PRO.
ROG Phone 5s still comes with the same display panel and physical design as the ROG Phone 5. A 6.78-inch Full HD+ (1080 pixels) Samsung’s E4 AMOLED HDR display with support for 144Hz refresh rate, (1ms response time).
At 24.3ms touch latency, the ROG Phone 5s and its PRO touchscreen offer the world’s lowest latency of any smartphone, thanks to the faster touch sampling rate of 360Hz touch-sampling rate, which is up from 300Hz.
It is HDR10+ certified, which covers nearly 151% of sRGB and 111% of DCI-P3. It arrives with a typical brightness of 800 nits at APL100. The panel sports Corning Gorilla Glass Victus protection. It also comes with an in-display fingerprint sensor.
The ROG Phone 5s is 10.29mm thick, weighs 238g, and comes in two options. There are original/vanilla ROG Phone 5 in Aurora White and ROG Phone 5s Pro Phantom Black color options. The normal 5s get the ultrasonic AirTrigger 5 shoulder buttons.
Instead of a rear display, the Phone 5s arrives with an RGB-backlit Republic of Gamers logo and the ROG Phone 5s Pro model has two touch sensors on the back, of course, these can be used as game controls.
Both phones are powered by the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 888+ chipset with a 3.0GHz prime core (Cortex-X1), which is upgraded from the previous model’s chipsets and up from 2.84GHz on the Snapdragon 888 processor.
To that advancement, it arrives with a 20% boost on its AI Engine and now delivers 32 TOPS, which is up from 26 TOPS on the ROG Phone 5. It is a 5nm Mobile Platform with Adreno 660 GPU for better graphic processing.
ROG Phone 5s series starts at 8GB RAM / 128GB storage, 12GB RAM / 256GB storage, 16GB RAM / 256GB storage, and up to 18GB RAM with 512GB storage configuration. These use LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage, and nor have a MicroSD slot, but they do support NTFS-formatted external USB drives.
Tho, when holding the phone horizontally, the ROG Phone 5s’ 3.5mm headphone jack on the bottom gets shut off, which leaves you hanging with the headphone jack on the AeroActive Cooler 5 with two extra buttons in addition to the cooling fan.
It runs Android 11 with ROG UI and supports Dual SIM, 5G SA/NSA, Dual 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ax, Bluetooth 5.2, GPS, NFC, and other connectivity. Well, cameras might not be the overwhelming feature here but still do come with some experience.
On the top bezels is a single f/2.0 24-megapixel front-facing camera with 0.9µm pixel size, while the back panel houses a triple camera sensor that shoots 8k video at 30 fps, 4k at 60fps, slow-motion 4K at 120 fps, and 1080p at 240fps.
These cameras include the Sony IMX686 64-megapixels main sensor, 0.8μm pixel size with f/1.8 lens. aperture, 13-megapixels 125˚ ultra-wide camera with f/2.4 lens, and f/2.0 5-megapixels macro sensor for depth capturing.
ASUS ROG Phone 5s comes with a 6,000mAh battery with support for 65W HyperCharge wired fast charging, a side connector with USB 3.1 Gen2 speeds, DisplayPort 1.4, and fast charging support too. It also supports up to 30W QC4.0 / PD3.0 / Direct Charge adapter.

ROG Phone 5s 16GB RAM / 256GB storage starts at NT$29,990 ($1,077 / NGN443,400. Nigerian Naira approx.) and 18GB RAM / 512GB storage version goes for NT$ 33,990 ($1221 / NGN502,685.Nigerian Naira approx.).
On the other hand, the ROG Phone 5s Pro costs priced at NT$ 37,990 ($1,365 / NGN561,970 Nigerian Naira approx.) for 18GB RAM with 512GB storage. The ROG Phone 5 series will be available to order in Taiwan and will ship starting from August 24th.
The ASUS ROG Phone 5s Pro comes bundled with the $70 Cooler, and the vanilla 5s only comes with a 65W charger and an Aero case. It comes with dual 7-magnet Linear 12x16mm front-facing speakers with GameFX & Dirac HD Sound.
